SWB Chinese name: sea waybill
It refers to a non negotiable document that proves the contract of carriage of goods by sea and the carrier's receipt of the goods or the loading of the goods on board.
The front content of the sea waybill is basically the same as that of the bill of lading, but it is printed with the words "non negotiable".
Some sea waybills have provisions on the back, such as cargo definition clauses, carrier's liability, obligation and exemption clauses, loading, unloading and delivery clauses, freight and other expenses clauses, lien clauses, general average clauses, collision clauses for which both parties are liable, primary clauses, applicable laws clauses, etc.
A sea waybill is a document issued directly by the carrier to the shipper or its agent indicating receipt of the goods.
Some sea waybills do not have a reverse clause, only stating on the front or back of the sea waybill the conditions of transportation referred to or the provisions of a certain bill of lading or other document.
The sea waybill cannot be endorsed for transfer, and the consignee does not need to present the sea waybill. They only need to present appropriate identification to retrieve the goods.
Therefore, the delayed arrival, loss, theft, etc. of the sea waybill do not affect the consignee's pickup, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of maritime fraud and incorrect delivery.
